Career Goals

I have two main career goals: to become an editor (at a publishing house or literary magazine) and to become a published novelist. The education I am receiving at St. Andrews is preparing me to meet my goals in countless ways, but there are two that are most important. First, my professors are teaching me to read other peoples’ work in a more critical, analytical way -- basically, how to figure out what does and does not work in a given piece of writing. Second, they are teaching me how to be a better writer myself through lessons on plot, characters, and many other things essential to the success of fiction.
