Experience St. Andrews with Admissions Open House Feb. 25
Laurinburg, N.C. – St. Andrews University will hold an Admissions Open House Feb. 25 for interested high school students and their families.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with check-in before a meet and greet with faculty and staff takes place in the Morgan-Jones Science Center.
“This is a time for students to explore the academic opportunities available and speak to members of our distinguished faculty,” said Erin Balduf, assistant director of admissions and open house coordinator. “This is also a time to see the other programs and resources that we have to support the educational experience.”
A formal gathering begins at 9:45 a.m. in Avinger Auditorium with presentations by Biology major and equestrian competitor Jameson Crandall, 1993 graduate Matt Clark and Vice President for Enrollment Management Jeff Bennett.
After a brief break, students and their families will be treated to a classroom experience with St. Andrews Professors Howard Reichner, Jeffrey Birdsong, John Knesel and Betsy Dendy.
“It is important that the students get an understanding about what goes on in the classroom,” Balduf said. “Our classes are dialog driven rather than lecture style and students need to be prepared for that kind of participatory learning.”
A campus tour that includes academic buildings, residence halls and the student center are led by a group of student ambassadors, all current students in good academic standing. Following lunch, Bennett will conclude the formal portion of the day with final remarks.
“We like to have some additional activities for the families with particular areas of interest,” Balduf said. “For this open house, we will have optional tours to meet with athletic coaches and the equestrian staff for an hour and a half following the main open house.”
A second spring Open House is scheduled for March 17.
