Alumnus donates royalties to St. Andrews University
Laurinburg, N.C. – St. Andrews alumnus Paul Gilbert decided to show his support for his alma mater in a creative way.
The 1987 graduate will donate his book royalties for Lead Like a General to the University for all purchases made through June 30.
“Liberal arts education is critical to our society,” said Gilbert. “Being able to understand the classics and make connections between disciplines is important. These are the kinds of critical thinking skills taught at St. Andrews and a select group of other fine liberal arts colleges and universities across the country. This seems like a nice way to allow alumni and friends to support the school in an innovative way.”
In Lead Like a General, Gilbert has researched modern leadership as shown through examples from the Civil War. The book has already received many positive reviews.
“A book to take on vacation or to be read quietly at home for all interested in leadership experiences rarely found in literature today, as the reader is constantly uplifted by a series of Civil War vignettes, which Paul Gilbert brings alive with his unique, personal style of communication,” said Major General Al Akers. “Much of what Gilbert writes also has application in the business world and in other professions.”
Lead Like a General is available through Amazon and for Kindle.
“We truly appreciate Paul’s willingness to support the University through this creative venture,” said St. Andrews President Paul Baldasare. “Our alumni are a talented group and this is just one more example of a St. Andrews graduate thinking outside the box to find a creative way to make a difference at his alma mater.”
UPDATE: Gilbert sold 40 books during the campaign timeframe, donating $300 to St. Andrews from the royalties.
