St. Andrews adding MBA Program

Laurinburg, N.C. – St. Andrews University has received final approval to begin offering a Masters in Business Administration this fall.

"When we announced our partnership with Webber International University and changed our name to University, we made it clear that we intended to grow in this direction," said President Paul Baldasare. "Our business program has always been a strength so starting with a MBA program was a natural fit."

St. Andrews business faculty will be providing the leadership as the first courses are offered beginning in August.

"We have structured the program to meet the needs of the working professional," said Robert Hopkins, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the university. "We have four terms: fall, winter, spring and summer. Full-time students enrolled continuously can complete the program in 19 months."

Expanding from the established undergraduate business program, the focus of the St. Andrews MBA is on the interdisciplinary nature of the business world.

"We want to develop the students' critical thinking skills so they can adapt easily to business shifts," said Hopkins. "Our graduates will upgrade their skill set, refine communication abilities and boost career mobility."

Courses in the program include financial reporting, global economic environment, Marketing philosophy and management and topics in the legal and ethical environment of business, among others. In addition to the traditional classroom instruction, the St. Andrews MBA program includes practicum courses with a consulting project.

"Students undertake group-based consulting projects with faculty guidance," said Hopkins. "These projects give students the opportunity to apply theory in a practical setting. Because they work as a team, the students gain valuable board room experience for future management positions."
