In their own words...
"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."
- Anthony Fernandez, Class of '10

Poet, translator coming to SAU Writers’ Forum

Laurinburg, N.C. –Noted poet, writer and translator Carlos Reyes will read at the St. Andrews University Writers’ Forum Thursday evening.

The Forum, which is free and open to the public, begins at 8 p.m. in Pate Main Lounge.

Recently the poet-in-residence in the Joshua Tree National Park, Reyes has published four books of poetry including the 2012 Pomegranate, Sister of the Heart.

His book of translations is Poemas de la Isla/Island Poems by Josefina de la Torre. His translation of the Obra poetica complete of the preeminent Ecuadorean poet Jorge Carrera Andrade, was published in 2004 in a bilingual edition in Ecuador. He is the publisher and editor of Trask House Books, Inc.

Reyes was the 2007 winner of the Heinrich Boll Fellowship to write on Achill Island Ireland received the 2008 Ethel Fortner Writer and Community Award from St. Andrews. His 1995 A Suitcase Full of Crows was a Bluestem Prize winner and finalist for the 1996 Oregon Book Awards.
