“Cars on Campus” coming to the SAU Alumni Weekend
Laurinburg, NC - As St. Andrews University senior public history major Cathy Walter contemplated a senior project on the American car culture she worked with her advisor, Associate Professor of History Dr. David Herr, to determine what the best options would be.
"We decided that a car exhibit on campus would give me the right opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge of American car culture along side the presentation consistent with a public history display," said Walter.
The “Cars on Campus: A Car for Every Purse and Purpose” exhibition will take place from 9 a.m. - 12 noon on April 12 in conjunction with the annual St. Andrews University Alumni Weekend.
"We felt that it would give the alumni another activity to participate in during the weekend while also drawing some community members," Walter said.
To be accepted into the exhibition, all automobiles must be road legal and in working order. Cars will be driven to their assigned positions in the display on the University campus.
Those interested in participating are to complete a registration form and return with a photo and $20 application fee to Walter.
“In addition to allowing people to enjoy the American car culture with a display of classic and contemporary vehicles, we will also hold a bake sale to raise money for Church Community Services,” said Walter. “We want to make this as impactful an event as possible and having a charitable element is very important to me.”
