In their own words...
"Living on campus is a life experience I have learned so much from. We eat together, watch TV together, study together, and do absolutely nothing together. When I go home for breaks, it's like I'm leaving my second family!"

Laurinburg Area Campaign to support SAU kick off event brings volunteers together

Frances and Jim Willis: 2014 Laurinburg Area Campaign Co-Chairs

Laurinburg, NC - The Laurinburg Area Campaign to Support St. Andrews University kick off event brought the campaign co-chairs and volunteers together to prepare for the 2014 campaign.

“Jim and I are happy to take on this role,” said Frances Willis, who is co-chairing the campaign with her husband. “We will be leading but we will have so much help from the staff and volunteers. The community is already waiting for us to call to ask them to donate. It is such an easy sell.”

The Campaign goal is to raise $500,000 for St. Andrews University in the local community by May 31. While the kick off marks the start of the active phase, the silent phase saw $211,816.90 raised.

“We have long recognized and appreciated the value of St. Andrews to our community in many different ways,” said Jim Willis. “It is certainly an economic driver, but it is also a resource for learning, art, sports and culture.”

Willis, who grew up in Laurinburg, shared that there were also several intangibles about the institution that brought value to the community from day one.

“St. Andrews came to Laurinburg at the start of a 20 year period of economic growth that we townies took for granted,” he said. “When we were competing for those Fortune 500 companies one thing we had that other areas didn’t was St. Andrews.

“St. Andrews meant new people, different people. and was a part of a bright new future,” he continued. “It meant possibilities. And it is still here offering all those intangibles along with the tangibles. This Campaign helps us to face the future together town and gown.”

The annual Campaign has met or exceeded the goal since it was formally introduced 19 years ago.

"The reason for the success of the Laurinburg Area Campaign for St. Andrews every year is the commitment of an extraordinary group of dedicated volunteers,” said Paul Baldasare, campus president. “We are so grateful for the leadership Jim and Frances will provide for this year’s volunteers as they work to make the campaign goal a reality.”
