In their own words...
"Living on campus is a life experience I have learned so much from. We eat together, watch TV together, study together, and do absolutely nothing together. When I go home for breaks, it's like I'm leaving my second family!"

Laurinburg, NC - For the second year in a row, St. Andrews University will be offering Summer at St. Andrews, an affordable academic program for rising 8th – 12th graders across the country.

“On the first day we opened registration for the year we got two registrations from campers who attended last year,” said Terry Laughter, who is leading the coordination of the camp for St. Andrews University. “We are getting more registrations each day.”

Registration for each of the three one-week long sessions runs through June 1. While registrations will be accepted after that date, the full cost of the camp will need to be paid in full after that date.

Students may choose to attend one session or multiple sessions. If they choose multiple sessions they are able to continue through the next level in their courses without repeating. Classes are all hands on and project based. The three sessions run Sunday through Saturday beginning on July 13.

Each student will get to choose a major. Available majors are Writer’s Workshop, Computer Game Art and Illustration, Veterinary Science, Forensic Science: CSI, Psychology, and Studio Arts: Painting, Drawing and Sculpture. Students also get to pair their major with an elective of their choice. Some possible electives could be Improv Comedy Workshop, Spycraft, Digital Photography and Editing, Yoga, and many more.

“Students live on campus in dorm rooms,” said Laughter. “They are matched with roommates based on age and course. We endeavor to have roommates who are the same age but on different academic tracks. Students are housed on floors by gender and a staff member lives on each floor.”

The daily camp schedule is divided into four academic sessions. Three class periods are focused on the students’ major and one class period on a chosen elective. Classes are usually in the mornings and early afternoons.

“In the late afternoons and evenings, students are able to build friendships through shared experiences,” said Laughter. “They explore the campus, use recreational facilities, and watch movies. We want to give them a taste of what college life is like.”
