"SAU meant EVERYTHING to me in all of these endeavors. It has been and will remain the grounding place and time of my life. It framed my loves, my goals and my sense of self in a way I’m certain no other community could have. I’d not be able to advocate for integration, inclusion and connectedness in the way that I do had I not the privilege of life-long friendships and experiences of such congruency in the presence of such rich diversity shared along our Laurinburg Lakeside Causewalk, yes I called it that the whole time I was there. Maybe it was a crosswalk or a causeway….but the heart of the place will always be there right where mine is." (2009)
