GREENWOOD, S.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College baseball team was held to three hits while Lander University took advantage of 13 hits, 11 walks, and four errors en route to a 15-1 non-conference victory at Legion Field Monday afternoon.

The Bearcats posted a trio of five-run innings to remain perfect on the season, completing the sweep of the three-game set against the Knights (0-3).

Lander posted five runs in each of the third, fourth, and seventh innings that was highlighted by four doubles in those frames. Seven of the Bearcats starting nine batters in the lineup recorded hits included a game-high four base knocks by junior Joe Tebaldi.

Sophomore starter Cory Hopper (1-0) earned the win as he struck out eight, and allowed one run on three hits over six innings. Senior Drew Elliott did not give up a hit in three innings of scoreless relief while fanning three to be credited with the unconventional save.

Junior Michael Cantwell (Burlington, N.J.) looked to give St. Andrews a promising start to the game, leading off the first with a double down the left field line. However, Hopper picked Cantwell off to end the early threat.

Freshman Adrian Rivera (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Samson Williams (Wilmington, N.C.) accounted for the Knights other hits. Rivera was the only Royal Blue & White player to tally a hit in all three games against LU.

Rivera scored SAPC’s only run in the fifth. Rivera had a two-out single and then scored from first on the next play, a throwing error by the pitcher on a ground ball hit by junior Manny Williams (Wilmington, N.C.).

On the mound, junior starter DJ Stinsman (Egg Harbor, N.J.) took the loss for St. Andrews. Stinsman (0-1) tossed two hitless innings before being tagged for five runs in the third, when he gave up four hits and three walks. Classmate Kyle Schneider (Bedminster, N.J.) notched a team-high two strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief.

Tebaldi and sophomore Brooks Reames both drove in three runs for the hosts.

St. Andrews next visits Southeast Region foe Wingate University (Wingate, N.C.) in the middle game of a seven-game road swing to start the season on Wednesday at 3 p.m. (Please note the location and time changes to the game as it was originally scheduled as a home game for SAPC)
