LAURINBURG, N.C.—
The St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s basketball team used a balanced scoring offense that featured 13 players recording points en route to an opening 91-59 victory over Johnson & Wales University (Charlotte campus) on Monday evening in Harris Court.

Sophomore Kurt Fenderbosch (pictured) scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Knights to a dominating victory over Johnson & Wales University. Fenderbosch made four 3-pointers and had 3 steals, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

The Knights (1-0) shot 53.2-percent (33-for-62) from the field as the SAPC men’s basketball program begins a season with a win for the first time since 2006.

“We’re pleased with the effort our team put forward tonight,” said Richie Schueler, St. Andrews head coach. “We still have a lot of improving to do, but that will come with repetition and time. I really like the mindset of this group and believe our program is headed in the right direction.”

Sophomore Kurt Fenderbosch (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) led the Knights with 16 points including a game-high four 3-pointers. St. Andrews drilled a total of 10 three-pointers on 37.0% precision.

Junior Zack Garst (Huntersville, N.C.) posted a double-double for the Knights with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Classmate Marvin Jackson (Gloucester, Va.) just missed his own double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Garst and Jackson combined for 18 rebounds as St. Andrews controlled the boards, 45-36. Jackson and Fenderbosch both picked the first year Johnson & Wales program for three steals.

Sophomore Chris Sumski (Charlotte, N.C.) made an immediate impact in his first varsity game for the Royal Blue & White with 12 points and a game-high eight assists. St. Andrews had assists on 25 of its 33 made field goals.

Sophomore Antonio Moffitt (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Marcus Connor (Charlotte, N.C.) followed with eight and seven points, respectively. The six-foot, 11-inch Connor was a dominating presence in the paint with a game-high six blocks and six rebounds. Moffitt also pulled down six boards.

The Knights scored the first eight points and never trailed. St. Andrews pulled out to a 30-point lead, 52-22, at halftime by shooting 62.5% (20-for-32) in the first half. SAPC maintained a comfortable advantage throughout a closer second half before closing out the 32-point victory.

The Wildcats were led by Sean Debblay (Sufflolk, Va.), who bucketed a game-high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Junior Jake Schreiner (Breezy Point, N.Y.) added 10 points and sophomore Winston Baker (Bethel, N.C.) chipped in with a team-high eight rebounds.

St. Andrews will next compete in the UNC Pembroke Basketball Classic on the weekend. The Knights square off against the host Braves on Friday at 8 p.m. before battling Francis Marion University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
