The Knights pulled to within four, 75-71, on a made shot by sophomore Aaron Christian (New Bedford, Mass.) with 49 seconds left but Queens made its last five free throw attempts in the final minute and SAPC misfired on its last three field goal attempts.
The Royals move over .500 on the season at 12-11 with their third straight win, while move up to 9-7 in the league. The Knights, who defeated Queens 81-76 on January 13, has now lost seven straight since that win falling to 6-14 and 2-11.
Jackson scored 22 points on 9-of-14 precision while falling one rebound short of a double-double with team-high nine boards. Sophomore Antonio Moffitt (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Zack Garst (Huntersville, N.C.) added 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Garst -- a 2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District ® honoree -- added seven rebounds.
After trading the first two baskets of the game in the first minute, Queens pulled away to a 17-point advantage (44-27) at halftime by shooting a sizzling 63.0-percent (17-of-27) in the first period. Senior Devon Seaford scored all 14 of his points in the first half and freshman Antonio Stabler netted 12 of his 14 points in the first 20 minutes on a combined 10-of-11 touch as the Royals held its largest lead of the game at the intermission.
Queens maintained a double-digit lead for majority of second half including a 10-point cushion, 68-58, with four minutes and 30 seconds left before St. Andrews put together one last run.
The Knights held the Royals to just one made field goal over the next four minutes during a 12-7 surge. Christian capped the rally with his made shot in the final minute to close the gap to four before falling short.
A quartet of Queens’ scorers reached double figures including a team-high 19 by junior Reggie Hopkins. Sophomore Daniel Bailey, who ranks third in the league in scoring, was held to 14 points.
Queens -- ranked 16th nationally with 9.0 made three-pointers per game -- hit its mark drilling nine treys at a 60.0% rate on Monday. The Knights only made two trifectas at 16.7%.
St. Andrews had fewer turnovers, 16-14, and scored more points off miscues, 22-13, but could not overcome the hot shooting from Queens.
Knights’ freshman Domonique Holliday (Aurora, N.C.) tallied season-high totals of seven points and three steals for the Royal Blue & White. Christian had nine points and handed out a game-high four assists.
Sophomore sharpshooter Kurt Fenderbosch (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) had his streak of 41 consecutive games with a made three-pointer come to an end on Monday as he missed his only attempt from behind the arc.
St. Andrews has less than 24-hours to prepare for its next Conference Carolinas clash, visiting Lees-McRae College (Banner Elk, N.C.) on Tuesday with first-tip scheduled for 6 p.m.
