MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.—Senior forward Justin Garton (Germantown, Md.) scored his first goal of the season to give St. Andrews Presbyterian College an early lead but North Georgia College & State University scored the final two goals of the contest for a 2-1 come-from-behind victory on the second day of the Mount Olive Sleep Inn Classic Saturday evening.

The Saints (1-1-0) came from behind as Eric York’s long-range shot in the 76th minute broke a 1-1 tie and lifted North Georgia to 2-1 victory over the Knights (1-1-0). Both teams split their two matches at the tournament.

Justin Garton scored his 22nd career goal for SAPC against North Georgia on Saturday.

York and Stan Soulen of North Georgia were named to the All-Tournament Team, as were sophomore Brian Humphrey (Jacksonville, N.C.) and freshman Alex Smith (Pfafftown, N.C.) of St. Andrews

The Knights got on the scoreboard less than five minutes into the match as Smith played a ball from midfield deep into the North Georgia third. Garton dribbled past the defense and scored from 10-yards out to give SAPC a 1-0 lead at 4:41.

After having a goal negated by an offside call in the 14th minute, North Georgia evened the match five minutes later on a restart. Soulen played a long service to York, who shot from the top of the box. St. Andrews senior goalkeeper Nick Stevens (Kernersville, N.C.) blocked the shot, but Terry Gibbs headed the deflection in to tie the match.

The score remained tied going into intermission after both keepers prevented go-ahead goals. Stevens made a diving save on Calvin Cook’s header in the 36th minute. Four minutes earlier, North Georgia keeper Rade Tanaskovic made a kick save on Humphrey’s breakaway attempt.

Neither team had many scoring opportunities in the second half until York’s game-winner. Ben Ellgass played the ball to York, whose low line drive went through just inside the left post to give North Georgia its first leave.

St. Andrews had an opportunity during the final 10 minutes on a pair of corner kicks 30 seconds apart, but Tanaskovic made a save on the lone shot attempt.

Tanaskovic recorded five saves, while Stevens finished with three. NGCSU held a slim 9-8 shot edge but the Knights took five of the seven corner kicks in the game.

St. Andrews travels to No. 25 nationally ranked Wingate University (Wingate, N.C.) on Friday night at 5:00 p.m.
