WINGATE, N.C.—Lander University, the preseason favorites to win the Peach Belt Conference, hit .311 for the match en route to a 25-23, 25-11, 25-16 non-conference volleyball victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Friday evening in the opening match of the 2008 Wingate Invitational.
Kelly Williams had 13 digs, 5 kills, and 2 aces against Lander on Friday evening.

The Bearcats (1-0) escaped with a two-point victory in the first set and used the momentum to sweep the 2008 opener for both squads. The Knights (0-1) only hit .038.
Junior middle blocker Galina Podolsky (Raleigh, N.C.) led the Lady Knights offensively with 11 kills. Sophomore Kelly Williams (Laurel, Md.) and freshman Heather Bolwerk (Appleton, Wis.) each had five spikes for the Royal Blue and White.
Williams had a team-high 13 digs and two if the Knights four service aces. Junior setter Jaime Hayes (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) tallied a team-high 25 assists, seven digs, and 2.0 blocks.
St. Andrews will play two more matches at the Wingate Invitational on Saturday to conclude the teams opening weekend. The Lady Knights will face tournament host and No. 25 nationally ranked Wingate at 10:00 a.m. before wrapping up the tourney against Saint Augustine’s College at 3:00 p.m.
