LAURINBURG, N.C.—Knights’ freshman Dan Butcher (Westwood, N.J.) record a victory in his first collegiate dual match for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College but visiting East Region foe Anderson University posted a 41-3 victory in the first dual meet for both squads on Friday night in Harris Court.

The Trojans (1-0) won nine of 10 matches including two pin falls and three technical falls. The Knights used (0-1) a very inexperienced lineup consisting of six freshmen and four sophomores.

Freshman Dan Butcher (pictured) is 1-0 in dual matches after posting a 5-4 win on Friday night in the Knights home opener against Anderson University.

Anderson junior CJ Hamilton (Spartanburg, S.C.) used four takedowns en route to a 11-3 victory in the opening match of the night defeats Knights’ sophomore lightweight Casey Gashaw (Laurinburg, N.C.). Hamilton used more than four minutes of riding time to earn the extra point for Anderson with the major decision.

Sophomore Chris Francis (Columbia, S.C.) doubled up the visitors lead with another major decision in the 133-pound weight class. Francis defeats SAPC freshman Matt Fletcher (Stephens City, Va.) by a 12-1 final score.

Butcher put the Knights on the scoreboard in the 141-lb bout. Butcher had a pair of takedowns and held off senior Anthony DiCarlo (Covington, Ga.) by a 5-4 decision. Butcher moves his overall record to 3-2 on his rookie season.

Anderson built its lead to 18-3 before the halftime intermission with a pair of five-point tech falls in the next two matches. Trojan junior 149-pound Ron Lofton (Lilburn, Ga.) blanked SAPC sophomore Troy Baranik (Laurinburg, N.C.) 16-0 while senior 157-lb Nick DiCarlo (Covington, Ga.) used an impressive 10 takedowns in a 24-8 win against freshman Andrew Blythe (Chesapeake, Va.).

After the break, sophomore Trevor Sanford (Sebastian, Fla.) added three more points to the Trojans total with a 6-0 decision in the 165-pound match against Knights’ sophomore Greg Todd (Gloucester, Va.).

Sophomore James Hoyt (Jericho, Vt.) added four more points with a 24-8 tech fall at 174-lbs. Anderson only received four team points instead of five on the tech fall because Hoyt was never able to post a near fall on freshman Dennis Clark (Jacksonville, N.C.).

Junior John Hamrick (Greenwood, S.C.) took the mat in the 184-pound weight class and logged an 18-7 major decision over freshman Mike Frazzitta (Fayetteville, N.C.).

Anderson increased its final margin of victory to 38 points as the final two Trojans grapplers record the matches only two pin falls. Senior Luis Audelo (Whitliner, Calif.) pinned freshman Josh Price (Fayetteville, N.C.) at the 3:32 mark of the 197-lb bout while sophomore heavyweight Jonah Adams (Chester, Va.) capped the victory with a 32 second pin fall over sophomore Jamie Roberts (Wilmington, N.C.).

St. Andrews next competes in the UNC Pembroke Wrestling Classic on Saturday, November 22. Anderson hosts NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
