LAURINBURG, N.C.—The Apprentice School wrestling team won the final seven bouts to rally from a 14-0 deficit in a 35-14 victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Tuesday night in Harris Court.

Sophomore Casey Gashaw (pictured) won the closest match of the evening, 2-1, helping the Royal Blue & White jump out to an early lead on Tuesday.

Sophomore Casey Gashaw (Laurinburg, N.C.) and freshman Dan Butcher (Westwood, N.J.) both won early to give the Knights (0-2) a quick advantage but the Builders (3-0) fought back for the win.

St. Andrews was granted a 6-0 lead after the Apprentice School forfeited its lightweight match. Freshman Matt Fletcher (Stephens City, Va.) provided the Knights with the six points with the forfeit victory, evening his overall record to 4-4 on the season.

Gashaw used 1:36 of riding time to defeat freshman Todd Gular (Hampton, Va.), 2-1, in the 133-pound match. The victory was Gashaw’s fifth win of the year.

Butcher increased the Knights lead to 14-0 after the 141-lb match with his first collegiate technical fall victory. Butcher, who leads St. Andrews with seven wins on the season, used three takedowns and three near falls en route to his 17-2 win over freshman William Sexton (Virginia Beach, Va.). Butcher is a perfect 2-0 in dual matches.

Junior Matt Perry (Chesapeake, Va.) finally put the Builders on the board in the fourth scheduled match of the evening. Perry had a 14-4 major decision against freshman Dennis Clark (Jacksonville, N.C.) to give the visitors four team points.

The Apprentice School trimmed the deficit in half (14-7) at the midway point after freshman Anthony Damico (Sterling, Va.) posted a 7-1 decision over sophomore Troy Baranik (Laurinburg, N.C.). After the intermission, sophomore Will Harcum (Williamsburg, Va.) inched the Builders closer with a major decision at the 165-pound ranks. Harcum out lasted freshman Mike Frazzitta, 21-11, in the high scoring bout as the Apprentice School closed the gap to within three points, 14-11.

The Builders leapfrogged into the lead with a pair of forfeit wins in the next two matches. Sophomore Austen Damico (Sterling, Va.) picked up the six points at 174-pounds while freshman Quinten Bowling (Newport News, Va.) did the same at 184-lbs.

Freshman 197-pound Charles Mills (Republic, Wash.) secured the victory for the Builders with the only pin fall victory of the evening. Mills pinned freshman Joshua Price (Fayetteville, N.C.) in 6:32. Senior heavyweight Cecil Lee (Portsmouth, Va.) extended the Apprentice School’s final margin of victory to 21 points with a forfeit win in the final bout.
