HAMPTON, Va.—The College of Brockport won all 10 matches on Friday morning en route to a 46-0 shutout over St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the opening bout of the 2009 Virginia Duals Tournament hosted by the Peninsula Wrestling Association at the Hampton Convention Center.
St. Andrews will next compete against NCAA Division I Duquesne University today (Friday, Jan. 9) at 1 p.m. in the losers bracket. The Dukes lost to Anderson University, 27-13, in their opening match of the Virginia Duals.
The Golden Eagles, who earned the No. 1 seed out of eight teams in the American College Division bracket of the Virginia Duals, remain undefeated on the season at 2-0. SUNY Brockport is currently ranked No. 19 nationally in NCAA Division III. Brockport next battles Anderson on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Knights (0-3 overall) lost three of its first five matches in very close contests that resulted in wins by decision for the Golden Eagles. SAPC sophomore Casey Gashaw (Laurinburg, N.C.) was edged 7-6 at 133-pounds; freshman Dan Butcher (Westwood, N.J.) lost 7-1 at 141-lbs; and sophomore Greg Todd (Gloucester, Va.) was defeated 2-1 in a hard fought 157-pound match.
