LAURINBURG, N.C.—The sophomore duo of Casey Gashaw (Laurinburg, N.C.) and Greg Todd (Gloucester, Va.) provided St. Andrews Presbyterian College with a pair of wins by decision but visiting Darton College won 6-of-9 matches en route to a 27-12 win on Wednesday night in Harris Court.

Sophomore Casey Gashaw (pictured) posted his second straight win by decision with a 12-6 win over the Cavaliers 133-pound grappler.

St. Andrews (1-11 overall) will try and bounce back tomorrow (Thursday) when they travel to Gaffney, S.C., for an East Region showdown with Limestone College at 7 p.m.

In the opening match, Darton lightweight Sam Spradlin looked poised to post a major decision with a late nine-point lead but Knights’ freshman Matt Fletcher (Stephens City, Va.) rallied with three points that limited the loss to a decision. Fletcher had an escape and a take down in the final minute to cut the final margin of defeat to 10-3 as the Cavaliers only grabbed an early three-point advantage in the match.

Gashaw dead locked the team score at 3-3 with a 12-6 decision at 133 pounds. Gashaw second straight dual match win was fueled by three take downs and two near falls. Gashaw has nine wins on the season and 21 career wins at SAPC.

Nathan Allan (141) put the visitors back on top with a late pin fall over junior Brad McKee (Kings Mountain, N.C.). McKee had an early take down but was unable to escape N. Allen, who finally stuck him in five minutes and 48 seconds. Darius Pittman (149) decisioned sophomore Troy Baranik (Laurinburg, N.C.) to increase Darton’s lead to 12-3. Pittman used four take downs in the third period to build his 16-8 lead but Baranik had a late escape and then held off Pittman’s offensive showcase for the last 40 seconds of the match to keep the final score a seven-point decision (16-9).

Todd (157) grinded out an 8-6 victory over DeMarcus Allen to double the Knights point total to six. Todd had a pair of first-period take downs to jump out to a 4-1 lead and held on for the two-point win.

St. Andrews’ freshman Mike Frazzitta (Fayetteville, N.C.) claimed a 3-2 lead after three minutes on Colby Booth (165) with a late take-down in the first period. However, Booth rallied for a 7-4 victory by decision. Frazzitta went toe-to-toe with Booth and almost knotted the score in the third period with a reversal but was unable to release his second foot to potentially send the match into overtime.

Giovante Graham (174) and Kelvin Jordan Jr. (285) were credited with forfeit wins to give Darton the victory.

Freshman Dan Butcher (Westwood, N.J.) had his hand raised at 184 pounds, supplying the Knights with their final six points.

Todd and Butcher each increased their team-high win totals to 11 wins on the season and six dual match victories.
