NEWBERRY, S.C.—The Shippensburg University wrestling team had four pins en route to a 48-0 sweep of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Saturday morning’s session of the 2010 Super Region 1 Duals hosted by Newberry College.

The Raiders, ranked No. 10 in the current regional poll, won all 10 bouts as the Knights were blanked for the second consecutive match.

Shippensburg set the tone early with a pair of falls in the first two tilts by Justin Morris and Simon Rice.

Junior Greg Todd (Gloucester, Va.) and freshman Sterling Perry (Hampton, Va.) had SAPC’s only takedowns. Todd took a 2-1 lead into the third period but William Purvis (157) rallied with an escape and a takedown to deadlock the score before being awarded the win, 5-4, with 80 seconds or riding time. Perry dropped his 141-pound showdown to Thomas Wiechelt by a 13-4 major decision.

Freshman Davin Morris (Winter Springs, Fla.) scored the most points for the Royal Blue & White in a 23-8 tech fall loss at 174 to Christopher Barrick. Classmate Richard Manwarren (Middleburg, Fla.) had the toughest draw for the Knights, getting pinned in one minute and 43 seconds by the No. 2 ranked grappler in the region, Nathan Reese.

Junior heavyweight Andre Ellerbe (Laurinburg, N.C.) lost a close 8-3 decision to Tyler Zittle in the final bout of the dual match. After starting 2-0 in dual matches, Ellerbe has narrowly lost his last three bouts in a trio of decisions by a combined margin of just nine points.

St. Andrews wraps up its four matches in the Super Region 1 Duals against Seton Hill University Saturday afternoon.
