The Knights best scoring chance came in the 30th minute when senior Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) centered a nice service ball to senior Myra Miller (Atlanta, Ga.) in the middle of the visitor’s box. Miller got off a nice shot but Beverly made the save.
Senior goalkeeper Garrison Burton (Atlanta, Ga.) had a game-high nine saves for St. Andrews.
The Knights kept the Braves off the scoreboard for the first 30 minutes but Cobb netted her first goal in the 31st minute to start the UNC Pembroke scoring. Senior Nisa Akins (Jacksonville, N.C.) set up the opening tally with a tap pass that set up a breakaway for Cobb, who converted on the play.
UNCP took 13 of its 25 shots in the first half but the Knights defense kept the game close holding the Braves to just a 1-0 advantage at the midway intermission.
Cobb doubled up the Braves lead in the 52nd minute with an accurate shot. Sophomore Faye Corbett (Gothenburg, Sweden) assisted on Cobb’s second goal of the day.
Freshman Emily DesJarlais (Anchorage, Alaska) finished off UNC Pembroke’s scoring, registering her first collegiate goal in the 68th minute. Off a free kick, sophomore Brittany Greaves (Wake Forest, N.C.) made a crossing pass from the right corner that found Cobb at the far post. Cobb headed the ball over to DesJarlais, who stuffed the ball into the back of the St. Andrews net.
Cobb finished the game with two goals and one helper. Beverly (1-0-0) made four stops over 90 minutes to start the season with a shutout. UNCP also had a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks.
