Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services are provided to meet the information needs of St. Andrews Presbyterian College students, faculty, and staff. This cooperative service among libraries enables library patrons to acquire books, articles, and other materials which are not a part of the DeTamble Library collection.
ELIGIBILITY: The service is available to St. Andrews Presbyterian College students, faculty, and staff only. Other patrons should contact their public library or the academic institution in which they are enrolled.
TYPES OF RESOURCES: Books and articles are the most common materials requested on interlibrary loan. Other resources such as dissertations, theses, and microforms may also be ordered. Most libraries do not loan audiovisual items such as videotapes and sound recordings, materials from special collections or reference, and items just published. Do not request books to be borrowed in lieu of buying textbooks. Interlibrary loans are intended for short-term use. Submit requests only for materials needed for research and study.
SUBMITTING REQUESTS: You may submit requests for books or articles through forms located in the library across from the copier on the first floor. Please complete the items on the form as completely as possible using the information you have available. Include the source of your citation (the database or printed index, etc. where you found the information). Please verify that any items you want are not available in the library (check the catalog) or through available full text databases. A maximum of 5 items may be requested at one time. If you have a specific need to order more than 5, please contact Mary McDonald. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis.
COST: Students will be charged $1.00 for each book ordered. This must be paid when the book is picked up at the Circulation desk. Students are required to pay 10 cents per page for photocopies of articles. If you do not pick up your materials, you will still be responsible for the charges. Failure to pay will mean loss of future interlibrary loan privileges.
TIME: It is best to plan ahead when requesting articles and books through interlibrary loan! It generally takes 1-2 weeks to receive requested materials. There is no way of knowing exactly when your item will arrive; however, the staff can check the status of your request to see if it has been shipped. It is important that you specify on your form the latest date you need the material. Articles can be faxed if there is an immediate need.
RENEWALS: All books have a due date when they must be returned to the lending library. If you need to keep the book longer, you must request a renewal before the due date. Contact Mary McDonald (email@example.com or 277-5023) for renewals. Please note that some libraries do not grant renewals.
RESTRICTIONS: Sometimes lending libraries specify restrictions on their materials such as in "Library Use Only." All restrictions must be honored.
NOTIFICATION: Students, faculty, and staff will be notified through campus e-mail as soon as materials arrive in the library. All materials are to be picked up at the circulation desk during normal library hours. Please pick up your materials as soon as possible after you are notified.
COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS: "The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain provisions specified in the law, libraries and other archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be 'used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.' If the user makes a request for and later uses a copy or reproduction for purposes in excess of 'fair use,' that user may be liable for copyright infringement." DeTamble Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, the fulfillment of the order would involve violations of copyright law.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN QUESTIONS: Please direct any interlibrary loan questions to Mary McDonald (firstname.lastname@example.org - 277-5023). Status inquiries, as well as renewal requests, may be made through e-mail, by phone, or in person.
