SAU finishes seventh at IDA Nationals

The St. Andrews University Dressage team finished seventh at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) National Championship held over the weekend at Centenary College in New Jersey.

“We feel that we accomplished our mission,” said Coach Jackie Dwelle. “Our goal was seventh or better for this year and we did it. I am proud of all the team members as they were wonderful ambassadors for St. Andrews.”

Jenna Marten earned second with her ride. Lindsey Agaliotis was seventh, Paige Tillison was 10th and Lauren Parker was 12th.

Agaliotis was the only St. Andrews rider to qualify for individual competition and a tough draw resulted in a lower score than hoped for according to Dwelle.

“I was very disappointed for Lindsey,” she said. “She has never ridden a horse trained to that level and in the 10 minutes of warm up it is very difficult to learn how to do that. Lindsey handled the situation with exceptional grace and I am very proud of how she represented us in what was an extremely trying situation.

“Had she drawn any of the other horses she would have had a much stronger ride, but that is horses for you,” Dwelle added. “They can be very humbling and you have to be prepared to be dealt that card once in a while. Lindsey showed how well she can ride. I am very proud of her.”

The St. Andrews University Hunter Seat and Western Teams compete this week at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships in Raleigh. St. Andrews will be serving as the host school for that competition.
