SAU Western Regional Champions for 7th consecutive year
Laurinburg, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Western Team earned the Regional Championship for Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) for the seventh year in a row during a competition at the Equestrian Center on Friday.
The team earned a perfect score of 42 to become the Champion Team.
Ella Brave was the Reserve Champion AQHA Cup High Point Rider.
Earning first place finishes in Friday’s competition were Brave, Lindsey Agaliotis, Erin Hudson, Michelle Hustad, Jake Hobson, Rae Rucker and Katie Mosca.
The team members who will compete at the Semi-Finals in March will be Brave, Hustad, Brittany Powell, Sami Cram, Logan Teeter and Vickie Wiese.
Saturday, St. Andrews hosted the IHSA Western Regional Championship. This is a competition for individual riders who earned 36 points in the respective classes. The event was a strong one for St. Andrews riders with seven riders earning a trip to the IHSA Semi-Finals.
Going to the semi-finals as individuals are Brave, Hustad, Powell, Mosca, Dugan McDermott, Jake Nix and Kali Cram, all of whom were either Champion or Reserve Champion of their respective classes on the day.
Tyler Gritzuk was third in his class during Saturday’s competition.
The Western team will next compete at the Semi-Finals in Morehead, Ky., March 23 – 24.
