SAU Pipe Band finishes third

The St. Andrews University Pipe Band completed the academic year competitive season with a third place finish in the Grade III band contest at the Loch Norman Highland Games Saturday.

"The band played very well in what was a very tight contest among the top 3 especially," said Pipe Major Bill Caudill. "We had a very aggressive run and good comments on our sound."

First place went to Atlanta and second to Carnegie Mellon University. Grandfather Mountain and Greater Richmond rounded out the top five.

"I am very proud of the work the band has put in this spring," said Caudill. "The standard is high this year, but our folks did what they have done the right way, with who we have and in the spirit of fair play. I'm very proud of this group."

The band will be adding at least four new players in the fall from the freshman class.

"We'll look forward to our next competitive outing in September in Charleston," Caudill said.

The band will complete the academic year with performances as part of the graduation weekend festivities May 3 and 4 on the University campus.
